Nancy Pelosi: "I go to the table with the commitment to the $600 dollars"

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in a Press Conference July 23rd 2020 In a press conference earlier today, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi vowed to uphold her commitment to the $600 FPUC weekly unemployment benefits. The weekly $600 FPUC (Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation), a provision established under the CARES Act, is set to expire this week, cutting off a significant portion of people's unemployment benefits.

Speaker Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer complained that they passed the HEROES act in Congress over 2 months ago, but have yet to hear from Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell despite requests to begin the negotiations.

"our unemployment provision has kept millions out of poverty. Millions it really has." Said Speaker Pelosi. "I mean they like to talk about the six hundred dollars, I like to talk about the 83 percent of two trillion dollars that they gave to the richest people, the top one percent in our country. Why are they worried about whether it's 600 or 400 or 500 people really need that."

As of the time of writing of this article, no progress has been made towards extending the abovementioned provision of the unemployment benefits.
